Help with food during the lockdown

Support is available to vulnerable residents who might struggle to get the food they need during the new national lockdown.

Priority supermarket delivery slots are available to people in the following groups:

  • Those who are clinically extremely vulnerable
  • People who are vulnerable
  • Anyone who must self-isolate because they have Covid-19 or been in close contact with someone who has contracted the virus

To apply for a priority supermarket delivery slot please call Wirral’s Coronavirus helpline on 0151 666 5050 or complete the short online application. The helpline can also advise on assistance that may be available from Age UK Wirral for anyone digitally excluded.

The Wirral Infobank website is a great online resource for local support and services, including help with shopping, social supermarkets (offering cut price food) and hot food deliveries.

A number of local organisations can also help people who can pay for their food but are unable to get to the shops themselves; please call the Coronavirus helpline on 0151 666 5050 to discuss the options available.

Anyone requiring crisis food support and who cannot pay for the food they need can apply online for an emergency food parcel or by calling the Coronavirus helpline on 0151 666 5050. Applicants will be asked a few questions to determine their eligibility and, if successful, will be given a unique code that can be exchanged for a food parcel from Wirral Foodbank.

Financial help with food for those most in need is also still available from the council for those with specific food needs due to a medical or health condition and/or religious or cultural requirement by calling the Coronavirus Helpline on 0151 666 5050 or by applying online.

Last year wasn't easy and many people will find the new lockdown very difficult, so it is more important than ever to look out for others as well as ourselves. This page of the Wirral View website provides some tips and advice from health professionals and has links to urgent support for anybody who is struggling with their mental health or knows someone who might be.
